staying on track

April 8, 2009

I’m happy to report that sensible eating, a little bit of exercise and a positive attitude have helped my blood sugars. Since starting walking a little (did a mile over my lunch hour yesterday) my blood sugars are back on target – I think the highest post meal blood sugar I’ve had is in the [...]

time to get back on track

April 6, 2009

Ok, the last three months I’ve been as lazy as a three-toed sloth and ate everything in sight. It was so easy. Eat and punch a few buttons on my pump. Then I noticed that my jeans were fitting a bit tighter and my blood sugars weren’t quite as good as they had been in [...]

January 1, 2009

Today is the beginning of a new year – 2009. It started off good as far as blood sugars go.

I wonder just how many times I’ll poke my finger this year? How many times I’ll have to change infusion sets? However many they are, the’ll help me do the finer things in life.

November 14, 2008

What is World Diabetes Day? A day set aside for all of us living with the big D to spread the word about diabetes awareness. I’ll choose to share a typical day in my life living with the big D.

My First Gusher

September 6, 2008

I’ve been pumping for almost 2 1/2 months (started the end June) and have read several pumpers’ blogs about infusion site blood gushers, but had never had one……till this morning.
I woke up with a blood sugar of 270!!!, so I knew that something was probably wrong. I was going to change my infusion site this [...]

Why I’m not voting for John McCain

September 3, 2008

Besides the fact that I am a bleeding heart liberal democrat and the thought of a 72 year old conservative republican sitting in the white house makes me shiver, there is a big reason I’m not voting for John McCan’t (my favorite name for him).

He won’t even consider the fact [...]

D365 28/365 – Month of dLife supplies

Today is payday, so it was time to refill prescriptions. Here is one month’s supply of prescriptions, insulin, test strips, pump cartridges and pump insertion sets. Thank God I have good health insurance. The original cost of the pills and insulin were $960. Each infusion set costs $13 (I [...]

D365 27/365 – dLife and wLife

Balancing my dLife and wLife is sometimes a challenge. This is my first semester of being a college professor and also wearing a pump. Needless to say, I now have supplies at home and at work (since it seems my pump never needs changing cartridges at the [...]
